Chapter History
Bethany Chapter as instituted on February 14, 1913 with 25 charter members. Wellsburg Chapter #23 exemplified the work by opening the meeting and the initiation of candidates. The officers were installed by Brother James. H. Deny, WGP of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia. Our first Worthy Matron was Virginia B. Wells and the first Worthy Patron was Alonzo Wells. (They were not husband and wife).
Bethany Chapter has been a hard working, but small, group of Sisters and Brothers. They have always been willing to help each other. Even though we are small, we are proud to be the home chapter of Wilber Cramblet, Past Grand Patron of West Virginia 1944-45, and Past Most Worthy Grand Patron of General Grand Chapter 1953-55. No other chapter in West Virginia has had this honor.
Even though we are small and struggling, we are still a group that loves Eastern Star and what it means and stands for. We will continue to struggle forth-for how long-who knows-I guess as tong as there is a love for our Order.
