Chapter History
The chapter was instituted on September 22, 1911 by Worthy Grand Patron Orin C. Ogdin and Worthy Grand Matron Sally D. Kneeream officiating. The first Worthy Matron was Hattie C. Hill and the first Worthy Patron was Dr. Warren Cline. The first meeting closed at 1:30 A.M. on the 23rd. The meetings were held on Highland Avenue.
The chapter’s first Grand Representative was Eleanor Ingraham who was Grand Representative to the state of Indiana.
The chapter was politically active as they sent a telegram to President Harding,” We favor disarmament. All sessions to be opened with prayer and all negotiations to be conducted publicly.”
On November 9, 1928, we moved our Charter from Highland Avenue to the Masonic Lodge building on Front Street.
In 1943 the mice ate the wheat and Elizabeth Henrie gathered wheat from her field and made a new one. Over the next few years, there were several homemade sheaves of wheat made.
During the rationing of WWII members had to obtain sugar and meat ration cards to get food for chapter dinners.
April 9, 1947, Rainbow Girls was instituted at Williamstown.
In the 1960s the Williamstown Masonic Lodge started raising funds for a new Lodge Hall. In April 1982 the new one story handicapped accessible building replaced the old three story building.
