Chapter History
September 27, 1909 an organizational meeting was held at the Masonic Hall in Davis, WV. On October 9, 1909 a special meeting was held with C. A. Martin, WGP present and Walter Chapter #43 received its charter from Grand Chapter.
Walter Chapter’s records indicate that they were honored to have had two WGM and two WGP. The chapter has had numerous Grand Chapter Officers, Representatives and committee members. The first combined (dual) Grand Visitation was held with Parsons Chapter #91 in 1949. This practice still continues today.
The Davis Masonic Lodge combined with the Thomas Lodge and became Thomas Fairfax Lodge #174. At this time Walter Chapter moved their meeting to the new Masonic Lodge in Thomas, thus becoming Walter Chapter #43, Davis in Thomas.
As we approach our 100th anniversary, we have overcome some obstacles. Attendance had been declining, Officers are difficult to obtain, but we continue to work for the good of the Order. We continue to work with faith to believe that our work will prosper and our Order will continue to grow with love and harmony.
Our chapter works for the Shriner’s, having had several fund raisers to support the fine efforts of the Shriners. We see the smiles of the children and their families and delight in our efforts to assist the Shriner’s.
Delores Bennett, PM had a dream of producing a cook book. With the help of her daughters, her dream came true. The cook book sold out and all donations were given to support our chapter. Dee has a new dream — to produce a new cook book celebrating Walter Chapter’s 100th year. We will begin taking order very soon, so if you missed out on the first book, or if you were lucky enough to purchase the first book, please get on the list quickly. You may contact the chapter’s secretary to sign up. Production has already begun and we look forward to another sell out.
Walter Chapter continues to strive to make a chapter strong and we urge your attendance and assistance in the work of our Order. You are always welcome at Walter Chapter!
