Gassaway Chapter No. 32

Merged with Buckhannon Chapter No. 18, 2010

Chapter History

Gassaway Chapter #32 Order of the Eastern Star was organized on March 20,1908 and received its Charter on Oct. 7 of the same year. There were 21 Charter members; the officers were installed by Stephen B. Waterhouse, Grand Worthy Patron of Wheeling, WV.

Original initiation fee was $3.00. During the first World War the Chapter purchased ‘war bonds’ to help with the effort. Finances being low, $400-500.00 were borrowed for the purchase and was repaid by means of bake sales, ice cream socials, etc.

Although many have served the Grand Chapter as Grand Representatives and Pages, our chapter has had only one serve as a Grand Officer, that being Sister Pat Cantrell, who served as Grand Martha.

We are proud to have one member of our Chapter - Sister Lena Barton who celebrated her own 100th birthday on July 20,2007.
