Chapter History
Francis Chapter No. 28 was organized as Martha Chapter December 7, 1907, and continued under the name of Martha Chapter until a change in name was made about
August 14, 1908.
Martha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, was organized at Clay, West Virginia, Saturday night December 7, 1907.
An organ van was used at the old building. After moving into the new Hall, a Victrola was bought, and later a piano. Many improvements to make our Chapter room attractive and comfortable have taken place through the projects of the Worthy Matrons.
The minutes show that Francis Chapter in the early days, as did E1ecta, practiced “charity, benevolence and generous hospitality” as evidenced by the record of flowers, cards, and visits to those who were ill, and baskets of food to the needy. This still continues today,
The social life of the early years of the Chapter was interesting. There being Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, Ice Cream Socials, Oyster Suppers, Picnic Suppers and showers for members on special occasions. Now entertaining our neighboring Chapters on “Friendship Nights” and other occasions and being entertained by them continue to be a source of pleasure and inspiration,
