Chapter History
Ripley Chapter No. 17, Order of the Eastern Star was instituted on January 10, 1906. Some time before that, Mrs. Greek A. Park had joined R. Douglas Chapter No. 15 at Ravenswood. Mrs. Park was deeply impressed by the beauty of the work and the high standard of the Order, so she and Miss Margaret Walker set about trying to get a Chapter organized in Ripley. After much effort, they secured the necessary 22 signatures for a dispensation. Mrs. Park was elected as the first Worthy Matron. On October 4, 1907, Ripley Chapter received its charter with 24 members. The Chapter grew rapidly and swiftly began to achieve recognition and honor. On April 20, 1971, the first meeting was held in the new Masonic Temple on West Main Street, where they are still held to this day. Each officer and member through the years has
