Chapter History
Linden Chapter No. 152 was fifty years old on May 7, 2003. We have three charter members still living, Sister Marceline Hughes, who is still active in our chapter and is a fifty-five year member, Sister Olive Ross and Sister Annabelle Woodward.
The year of our Grand Visitation when Betty Workman was Worthy Grand Matron and Madeline Justice was a Grand Officer there were over 200 people who had come to visit. Marceline Hughes was Worthy Matron and Bernard Justice was Worthy Patron. The people who had stayed down stairs noticed that the floor was giving quite a bit. Corlis Harris went upstairs as the Chapter began to close and told them not to march out and guided the people out of the Chapter room and down the stairs. Since then there has been supports put in the Lodge Hall to support the floor.
Marceline Hughes was Worthy Matron. Her officer for Esther was Georgia Webb, who liked to clown around. As Georgia did her part for her station she went to move. Needless to say she couldn’t move. Raising her leg high in the air there was gum stuck to the bottom of her shoe.
Ella Pearl Bradley and Marceline Hughes went to visit Francis Chapter No. 28 Clay for Friendship Night. Not noticing Ella Pearl had her gown stuck in the door of the vehicle. When they got to Clay, Ella Pearl’s dress was a mess. So what do Ella Pearl and Marceline do? They go to the Henry Clay Hotel in Clay where a nice lady washed Ella Pearl’s dress. Then to Friendship Night they go.
When our Chapter started some of the ladies didn’t know what was expected of them. So Irene Boggs went to Mr. Ball of Grantsville and asked him what was expected of her. He told her she didn’t have to do anything unless she took a chair. Irene told him “I think I’ll just stand.”
