Chapter History
A group of Master Masons, together with their wives, daughters, sisters and mothers petitioned the Grand Chapter of West Virginia for the privilege of organizing. The Worthy Grand Patron, Brother William E. Krupp granted a dispensation, and on September 29, 1904 came to Grafton accompanied by the Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Anna Waterhouse and the Associate Grand Patron, Brother Stephen ‘Waterhouse, Jr..
A committee was appointed to draft Bylaws and they were approved by the Grand Chapter, which met the next, week, October 5, 1904 in Mannington. The officers were regularly installed into office on October 29, 1904 and the Charter was received on November 25, 1904.
The first officers of Naomi Chapter No. 12 were Worthy Matron Marie E. Leeds, Worthy Patron John T. Pilson, Associate Matron Anna S. Motter, Secretary Delta Dudley, Treasurer Henry Runge, Conductress Emma Morgan, Assoc. Conductress Daisy Dudley, Chaplain None, Adah Marie Runge, Ruth Mary Leeds, Esther Ollie Hanway, Martha Sarah A. Graham, Electa Jennie Ringler, Warder Hattie C. Kimmel, Sentinel George W. Motter. There was no Associate Patron in subordinate chapters until 1929. The office of Chaplain was not filled at first. The Worthy Patron came to the Altar and gave the prayers. Since the Chapter had no musical instrument at the beginning, the office of Organist was not filled. The Worthy Patron read passages of Scripture between the lectures.
