Chapter History
Good Hope Chapter #109 was granted a charter on October 9, 1924, which was officially presented to the chapter on April 1, 1925, by Sister Maud 0. Curtis, WGM, who installed the first officers. Queen Esther Chapter 11 from Clarksburg exemplified the initiatory work. There were 38 charter members with dues being $1. The WM was Icie Williams and the WP was C. Wade Post. The WGM was Carrie F. Thurm and the WGP was John H. Charnock.
The cornerstone of the present lodge building was laid on August 21, 1971, after the previous building was destroyed by fire on January 9, 1970.
Our chapter currently has members who volunteer their time at the Veterans Hospital in Clarksburg, cook meals for the Clarksburg, and volunteer at the registration desk at United Hospital Center. The Good Hope community is centered around the New Bethel United Methodist Church and many members of our chapter belong to that church. The church is situated across from the Masonic Cemetery in Good Hope and ladies of the church and our chapter often cook meals for funerals which take place at the cemetery.
Our chapter began having picnics annually on the grounds of New Bethel Church.
