Chapter History
On June 12, 1923, a meeting was held in the Masonic Hall, Moorefield, West Virginia, for the purpose of organizing a Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Worthy Grand Patron C. C. Dussenbury of Huntington, West Virginia, was present to institute the Chapter.
Meetings of the Moorefield Chapter are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The initiation fee was to be five dollars ($5.00) for new member: two dollars ($2.00) for affiliations: two dollars ($2.00) annual dues paid in advance.
Sister Bess Gamble and Brother W. L Wilson and W. V. Vermilyea were appointed to secure Chapter supplies.
On June 27, 1923, Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Birdie Showalter of Clarksburg, West Virginia visited the Chapter and instructed the officers in their work.
On November 15, 1923, Sister Emma J. Carr, Alkire Chapter No. 10 Keyser, West Virginia having been appointed by the Worthy Grand Matron as Special Deputy was present and constituted the Chapter and presented the Charter. Sister Carr appointed Sister Holiman, Alkire Chapter No. 10 as Grand Marshall and the officers, having been previously elected, were duly installed by Sister Carr.
The Chapter met in the Masonic Hall which was housed on the third floor of a building. One of our older members spoke about what a task three flights of steps was. She said it took real dedication to climb the steps.
Our Chapter has grown through the years and now has one hundred fifty-one members. The Masons have built a lodge and it is a great place to meet. It is a great space with plenty of storage, kitchen, dining room and a spacious Chapter room. We are truly blessed.
